Default Warrior/Mesmer...what to do in PvP?

Hi, Im fairly new to this game.(started playing few days ago.) I get "owned" in pvp that its not even funny. Can anyone give me any idea on what spells, weapon, skills, gears i should bring and what to do in pvp?

So far i am lvl 14 and up to beacon. I have gadiator set and ascalon set. The only weapon i have so far is fiery dragon blade with max dmg and no bonus nor customization.I also have Duelist helm with major sword rune and minor vigor on ascalon chest.I feel like if i use gladiator set i sacrifice too much armor...but if i use ascalon set i lack too much energy...I also have some off-hand item that gives me +6 so l use that instead of shield.

I get owned by posion and warrior/monk mostly...(of course rangers,necro,elementals....pwn me too)

I recommend searching for PVP builds in the campfire section of these forums. Cool place.

You're probably getting beaten in PvP because most of the people in the arena that you're at (Yak's) have run much farther ahead in the game than you, and are using the best weapon/armor/skills available, including elite skills. In general, this puts you at a huge disadvantage compared to other players in the arena, particularly as a warrior.

My suggestions is to wait until you get to level 20 so that the field is a little more even.

Or, just pvp in small arenas. Like Ascalon. Even the level whatevers-below usually don't have droks/elites. USUALLY mind you, I've seen a majority that do.

But the best all around even arena..there isn't one. People specifically do things like run a level 3 to droks, armor it up, pay people to take them elite cappin then come back to random 4v4 and own people without a second though..people like this need their hands chopped off :P

/agreed.

The Ascalon and Yak's arena are totally worthless for new players. I wouldnt mind ArenaNet removing these for better PvP features.

Make a PvP character and go to Comp Arena if you want a fair fight. There are some decent premades there to use. Otherwise you will have to deal with the runners using elite skill (or skills they shouldnt have until later in the game such as Apply Poison) and top level armor.

Well there is the idea of getting Fevered Dreams (E) and getting it on someone then using axe attacks (dismember, axe twist, axe rake) to damage the whole party, or use crippling or movement slowing skills a little to stop the monk from maneuvering away from you and your team. Myself I have tried W/Me's very very little and would not know what a good one does.

Default W/Me newb arena guide (from a GW newb) LONG

W/Me arena newb player's perspective:

1. Warriors, without hexes and conditions, rule everything except for possibly rangers. So for a W/Me, protecting against hexes is very important. In the arena you can't rely on monks to clear your hexes and conditions. Therefore, always carry hex breaker and either shatter hex or inspired hex. Keep hex breaker up all the time. I can't overemphasize its use. Shatter is more aggressive and energy intensive; Inspired is cheap; both give good protection without a high attribute investment. I carry hex breaker and inspired hex. Inspired allows you to cast a spell you otherwise couldnt (although usually weakly), lots of backatcha fun possible with inspired. You will still be subject to conditions. The good news is arena fighters tend to load up on damage skills and interrupts instead of condition causing skills, but you will always be weak to conditions. Your bar is heavy in spells so if you get conditions put on you, stop, tab around and use your interrupts and hex removers for the benefit of the team.

2. Interrupts, shutdowns and energy drains are incredibly useful in arena pvp where it seems energy management is much more important than raw damage. Blackout is your friend; i wont go in an arena without it. I also carry leech signet, high recharge but very energy friendly and interrupts all abilities like troll unguent, not just spells. I also carry another various interrupt. There are several good ones, I prefer interrupts that drain energy as opposed to cause damage. Blackout is itself an interrupt; if your blackout goes off before the opponent finishes the spell or skill, it will fizzle. Blackout is EXTREMELY disruptive and confusing on an opponent and I will discuss its use further down.

3. That leaves 3 slots. I use defy pain as an elite skill. The boss that gives this cap is right outside a town so it's not that hard to get. Focusing all your adrenaline production on this skill will allow you to keep a +200ish hp/20 armor buff on yourself with no energy expenditure. The next slot is for ether feast, an excellent cheap heal with a long cast time; as a bonus it drains energy, great spell. Finally rez signet. I carry it but am a little conflicted as to its usefulness instead of a weapon skill like hamstring etc. Rez can turn the tide sometimes though. Now you are asking, no weapon skills? That's right. IMO, a warrior does fine damage at skill level 12-13 without weapon skills and your job is to keep useful and mess with the other team, not to stand around hexed as casters unload on you and your team.

Weapons - I like sword for the high minimum damage; you won't get the big juicy hits but damage is more consistent. I switch between a zealous of fortitude, a furious of fortitude and a vampiric of fortitude, all work, I favor zealous slightly. I forego a shield for a focus; the collector domination chakram available in the desert which gives 20% chance to dom recharge and 20% chance to dom casting speed works great. If you want to experiment, you can try out a weapon set with a +energy - energy regen focus to have more energy at the start of the fight. I keep my strength at 8 so one of my weapon sets has a shield on it; sometimes you will have to whack it out with a warrior toe to toe (usually you will own them with your interrupts and ether feast). I keep one weapon set with a cane so that if you are perpetually crippled, you can at least cast and do ranged dmg.

Armor - Gladiators chest, leg and glove; ascalon boot; sword helmet. The best health and absorb runes you can afford and a sup sword rune; being able to hit 12-13 in wep skill cheaply and cast better dom/insp is worth the -75 hp to me.

Attributes - 12-13 sword, 8 str, 8-10 in dom and insp as the points work out, if you spend points right you will waste none.

Strategy - Tab and attack the first healer you come to; usually there is one or none in arena battles. Watch for hexes and disarm them if they hit you. You will need to suck up the trap damage if any and then heal with ether feast or defy pain. Get attached to the monk; you want them to start running. Use interrupts and blackout liberally. Congrats, you have shut down the other team's healing. Suck energy when possible. You will be doing some good damage hopefully, and may even kill the monk outright. Tab to a caster and begin working on them. After blackout, you will usually see the opponent try to cast a spell or use an ability; this is a great time to interrupt with your energy drain. Always be working toward the next blackout. You should usually be pressing that button every time you have the chance. It is incredibly demoralizing and disruptive. A side benefit of the W/Me is that you will usually be targeted or called after the monk, me, ele, necro, ranger. Usually you will be subject to an early hex and then left alone to work your nastiness. A good arena team, say a faction farming guild team on TS/Vent, will target you earlier if they are smart. The chakram in your offhand kinda gives you away as a hybrid, so you may want to let em see the shield early and then switch so they think you are another dumb yock in heavy armor.

Your nemesis is the ranger. Rangers are way overpowered in arena (traps should be banned in 4v4 imo; the class is certainly powerful enough without them) thats why you see so many of em. But then again you are overpowered also hehe, and there is nothing more fun than killing a ranger with no energy and interrupting that last desperate troll unguent.

Sorry for the length, but wanted to be thorough with respect to the things I have learned as a newbie W/Me in arenas.
